Final Major Project:  Step into the Light!

During my time at Chelsea College of Art and Design, I have learned that beauty can lie in the simplest of creations and that simplicity can be as appealing as complexity. I am more confident about trying new techniques and also more comfortable experimenting with different media.

I started fine art wanting to experiment in areas I have never worked on before, so I chose sculpture. The more I became inspired, the more I made, which resulted  in these creations being more of a success. The ideas that have shaped my art have also been strongly influenced by galleries and exhibitions around London. After having recently seen the works of Yudi Noor, Bob Curry, James Hyde and Evan Holloway, my enthusiasm has been pushed to another level. 

                         

I also spent a couple weeks during the course working with photography where I thoroughly enjoyed playing with light and exposure. My ambition is to continue in the field of Sculpture but to incorporate and combine certain elements of photography into my final piece. I want to explore colour, lighting and shadows but in a three dimensional structure. The purpose of this project is to combine physical with visual and to understand and explore the boundaries of sculpture.

To begin this project I will need to dig deeper and discover the ideas and meaning behind these similar pieces. I will also need to research more on wiring and how to connect light fixtures and cables to one another. My method and process will include working with a variety of found objects whether being from skips, junkyards or just found on the street. I will also need to visit a hardware shop to purchase cables, bulbs and plugs. I will need to use the wood and metal workshops within the university for cutting, attaching or welding these materials. Also, my sketchbook can be used to display and develop ideas which are very helpful in the progression of my work.

Continual evaluation is essential, especially addressing the tutors opinion on my progress during the project. Feedback from the tutors and peers is very helpful to make sure I stay on track. I will also know how well I portrayed my thoughts and ideas or if i strayed from the original notion when the crit presents itself.
